Friends In Yoga Teacher Training Course

Cherry Ray

My start in yoga was prompted by 18 years of acute and chronic back problems caused by an injury as a teenager, which had totally informed my life. Feeling extremely unfit and in pain (no other exercise had been possible during those years) I went to my first yoga class at 35yrs old. Within a few months I was attending 5 classes a week and was beginning to feel like a completely different person. I started my training with IYTA by correspondence, 3 months late but my strong motivation allowed me to catch up and saw me graduating in 1987. By that time I was totally addicted and so have subsequently spent most of the rest of my life trying to live a yogic lifestyle, while teaching a variety of yoga classes. I have taught mostly general classes but have done stints with children, seniors, pregnant women, for the MS society, for Curtin Uni (staff), in corporate situations, whilst also giving many public talks, organising public demonstrations, coordinating many yoga weekend retreats as well as running 2 intensive yoga weeks in Bali. I have also taught intensives in UK and America.  Yoga changed me, it changed my life and all of my relationships. I am as motivated and excited by yoga as I ever was.

Michele Hendarwin (Rakinanandaa)

I was introduced to yoga at the age of sixteen, and since that time Yoga has been an integral part of my life. I have studied Yoga with many different teachers, who each had their own unique approach to the practice of Yoga.  In 1995 I completed a 12 month Teacher Training Course with Friends in Yoga (FinY) Inc. In 2000 I became an instructor on the FinY Teacher Training Course, and in 2002 I took on the position of Course Coordinator.

I held both positions until the end of 2009, when FinY as an incorporated body was disbanded.  I continued to be an occasional guest presenter on the TTC whilst the course was under the helm of Joanna Wakefield.

In 1998 I founded the Golden Lotus Yoga School, and currently teach a variety of classes in Perth, Western Australia.  Since 2007 I have also been conducting regular retreats in Bali.

My teaching is founded in the classical Hatha Yoga style, focusing on the development of inner well-being through breathwork, postures (Asana) and relaxation/meditation techniques.
